At the onset of each January, we take a look back at the previous calendar to the music that fell short of making it to Dancing Astronaut‘s Top 100 Tracks of 2022, not because of quality, but because the tracks simply remained unreleased. And as we look forward to the next 12 months, we’re attempting to forecast artists’ release agendas with the countdown of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2023.
2022 was a year that we’ve repeatedly hailed as the potential starting line to dance music’s next golden age—a full decade after its most cherished era—with the doors to artists’ creative momentum from the pandemic being blown wide open and unlocking a tidal wave of first-class originality. But a sizable percentage of the music introduced in 2022—in either a live setting or through social media—still sat in the release vault when midnight struck on December 31. And as that golden age narrative hopefully continues to write itself 2023, we rounded up a bank of those requested IDs that we believe have a somewhat realistic chance of seeing the green release light at some point between January and December, including Martin Garrix and Alesso‘s inbound pairing, John Summit and Hayla‘s LA Coliseum ID, Rossy‘s “Halloween XI” ID, Mau P‘s “Bounce,” and so many more.
This list is sorted in alphabetical order by artist and will be regularly updated throughout the year.
