When considering the likely crossovers to happen on STMPD RCRDS, one between DubVision and The Him might not have sat at the top of anyone’s predictions list, but it does not let down in the slightest. Signaling the former’s return to STMPD RCRDS after “I Don’t Wanna Know” from August 2021 and the latter’s first release since his solo label debut from the following month, the Dutch counterparts have met in the middle of Holland for the delivery of “Sometimes.”

Those that hadn’t been keeping up the latest The Martin Garrix Show radio episodes might’ve been taken for surprise when STMPD RCRDS stunned social media with the “Sometimes” reveal a few days ahead of its February 11 arrival. DubVision had been previously experimenting with a darker, harder-hitting sound on their past handful of STMPD releases, but on “Sometimes,” they wholly reinstate their Midas touch of progressive house with the help of The Him. With production marks from both camps being outwardly palpable, DubVision and the now-solo The Him’s first pairing is progressive house at its finest, with an enraptured vocal as the cherry on top that makes “Sometimes” feel like it could be an indirect homage to Avicii.
