Hardwell timeless anthem ‘Spaceman’ celebrates its 12th anniversary

Dutch maestro Hardwell groundbreaking single, “Spaceman,” has reached a significant milestone, turning 12 years old since its digital debut on January 23, 2012. This track, a cornerstone of the big room house genre, has etched its place in the annals of electronic dance music (EDM) history.

Originally presented as an instrumental piece, “Spaceman” evolved with the addition of vocals by Dutch singer Mitch Crown in the version titled “Call Me a Spaceman,” released on May 18, 2012. Despite an alternate vocal collaboration with Bright Lights, the Mitch Crown rendition was the chosen one. In 2015, Bright Lights shared a complimentary download named “Mr. Spaceman.” As a tribute for the song’s five-year milestone in 2017, a remastered edition emerged as “Mr. Spaceman (2017 edit).”

Widely regarded as one of the quintessential big room house anthems, “Spaceman” stands tall alongside other classics like Martin Garrix’s “Animals,” Sandro Silva and Quintino’s “Epic,” Dvbbs and Borgeous’s “Tsunami,” and Martin Garrix and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s “Tremor.”

In a nod to the enduring legacy of “Spaceman,” a 2022 rework, initially exclusive to SoundCloud, surfaced on the deluxe edition of Hardwell’s album “Rebels Never Die.” As we celebrate 12 years of this electronic masterpiece, “Spaceman” continues to transcend time with its pulsating beats and timeless appeal.
